About

Welcome to Tiny Hands, Gentle Hearts: Guiding Children to Care for Bugs, Plants, and the World Around Them. This professional development workshop is designed for early childhood educators who want to thoughtfully nurture children’s empathy and connection to the natural world. Through engaging lessons and reflective prompts, participants will explore how to support respectful, curious, and kind interactions with bugs, plants, and outdoor spaces. The workshop covers key topics such as guiding gentle exploration, modeling language that fosters care, setting kind boundaries in nature play, and creating meaningful invitations for connection through play and storytelling. Educators will reflect on their own responses to nature, consider the impact of their words and actions, and discover strategies for cultivating a culture of care and stewardship in early learning environments. Participants will leave with practical tools, real-life examples, and ideas that align with the values of the BC Early Learning Framework (2019), particularly its emphasis on relationships, responsibility, and learning through wonder, play, and connection to land. This workshop provides approximately 4 hours of self-paced professional development.
